2018 Exhibit News!
The upcoming exhibit will be the 20th anniversary for the guild, and the 10th exhibit.
The dates for the exhibit will be: August 10th Opening Reception, Friday, 6 pm
There will be a soft opening Wednesday, August 8th for those who just can’t wait!
The closing date will be Sunday, September 23rd at 5 pm.
The deadline for entries will be June 30, 2018. Drop off dates: July 31 & August 1, 2018 2 - 5 pm(Tuesday/Wednesday) Pick up dates: September 25 & 26, 2018 2 - 5 pm(Tuesday/Wednesday)

There will be lots of details coming your way but this should begin the process.
The committee will be asking for your help along the way and I know you will come forward and take on a task. We have some exciting ideas for this very special exhibit...

Small Shop Window Quilts can be purchased for a minimum of $35 donation. Proceeds to be given to Seeds of Hope Partners. Seeds of Hope Partners is a volunteer organization created to assist families in crisis. Their goal is to provide basic needs to maintain families and aid in reunifying families. They serve under the Tioga County Department of Human Services, Wellsboro PA.
These quilts will be on display in shops throughout the area from July 4th until September 1st, enticing visitors and residents to the exhibit. From September 1st until the exhibit closes, they will be available for purchase, at the Gmeiner Art & Culture Center, Main Street, Wellsboro PA.
Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild 20th Anniversary, Quilt Show
Entry Categories AUGUST 8th to SEPTEMBER 23rd, 2018
1. Large Quilt * More than 270” around intended for a bed, Machine quilted.
2. Large Quilt * More than 270” around, intended for a bed, Hand quilted.
3. Small Quilt Less than 270” around, including throws, lap and baby quilts.
4. Wall Hanging No more than 160” around, intended for wall display.
5. Miniature & Misc Small quilts (the blocks are small versions of large quilt
blocks), and quilted table runners, clothing, and bags.
6. Guild Challenge “My Environment”, a piece less than 84" around. (18”x24”)
The Challenge, "My Environment", can be anything that you think of as "yours". It can be large, but not too large(see size requirements) or it can be small. It can be practical or ethereal. You can search your time and space to arrive at your inspiration.
Guild members cannot enter more than 4 entries in the exhibit, including the challenge category. So, if you enter the Challenge, you may also enter 3 other entries. Dowels will be requested for Challenge; Wall Hangings; and Miniatures that need to be hung. Put your name on the dowel, so it is returned with the quilt.
*Members will be allowed one entry in the 2 Large Quilt categories. So, if you enter a hand quilted large quilt that will be your entry and vice versa.
Quilts must have been completed after October, 2016.
The 2018 Exhibit Quilt is finished. Tickets are on sale now and can be obtained by contacting Cindy Baker or Kate Means.

The Gmeiner’s Art Studio will be converted into a quilt store for this one-of-a-kind event. Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild Members are invited to sell items such as quilts, baby quilts, table runners, bags, etc.
Thirty-five percent of the proceeds of this sale benefit the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild’s Exhibit fund. The Gmeiner collects a fifteen percent commission on all sales. A check for fifty percent of the sale plus six percent sales tax (when applicable) will be sent to the quilter about one week following the Labor Day Quilt Market.

Dimensional Applique - Make your applique POP!
Come learn some dimensional applique techniques using hand and machine sewing.

Paper Piecing - Holly will demonstrate the technique of (both partially done and
completed) PP using the PP items (miniature, extra-large, etc.), cloth foundation
pieced, "sew-press-trim" method. There will be examples of multiple sized blocks
and patterns, kits, books on PP to show. A stack of easy, single block
patterns will be given away.

Twister blocks look more complicated than they are. Starting with a checker board
top and using a special twister ruler, it is a technique even an inexperienced quilter
can do and have success with. There are many variations and sizes… Betty will
show samples and talk about the process.

Coiled Baskets - A Modern recipe for an ancient art
Ancient cultures made woven baskets and containers as storage, in order to
survive. Today, the technique to create a coiled basket is an efficient way to use
scraps of fabric. These baskets make great gifts as well as organizers for your
quilting tools. Only 3 steps and it is completed.

Presentation will include fabric selection, how to set up the cutting of the fabric,
how to arrange your cut fabrics in blocks and the variety of blocks that can be
made. Participants can play with arranging pre-cut fabrics in blocks. A variety of
"Stack-n-Whack" quilts will be shown.
